Spiritual Formation

Jesus called me into pastoral ministry before I was ten years old, though I wouldn’t learn to hear his voice until my freshman year of college at Indiana Wesleyan University, where I was strongly encouraged by my collegiate cross country team to deepen my personal relationship with God. Once I discerned God’s call on my life, I immediately switched majors and began preparing for ministry, while continuing to compete for Indiana Wesleyan’s track and cross country programs. My junior year of college, I heard about 12Stone’s residency program from a teammate who was also going into ministry. In October of 2020, my wife Aislynn and I traveled to Lawrenceville, Georgia where I interviewed for a position as a spiritual formation resident. We were so excited when we heard that I was offered the position!

After a couple of weeks of prayer, we accepted the position feeling it was the place that God desired our family to be for the next two years. We certainly had anxiety about moving across the country, considering our entire lives had been rooted in the Midwest. With each step of faith though, God opened new doors and provided in ways we couldn’t have imagined, making the transition to Georgia incredibly smooth. During my time in the 12Stone residency, I feel that I’ve gained years of ministry experience in an incredibly short frame of time, due to the guidance of phenomenal ministry leaders that I am fortunate enough to be led by every single day. When asked what plans I have after the residency, I usually reply that I’m just keeping my hands open to whatever God has next for us, but I have no doubt that it will demand a greater degree of faith and increase our dependance on Him.

Do you feel like I would be a good fit for your congregation? I encourage you to reach out and together we can prayerfully explore whether your local church would be in-step with the plans that God has next for my family.
